The Endless Mountains Heritage Region (EMHR) will be putting on another pair of cemetery preservation workshops\, but this time for the entire four-county region! We will have two opportunities for area cemetery associations\, volunteers\, and interested parties to gain insightful knowledge about how to properly preserve our sacred headstones and final resting places. \nThe first workshop will be held at the Metcalf Mansion (50 West Harrison Street\, Tunkhannock\, PA) on Saturday\, March 29 and the second will be at the Bradford County Historical Society (109 Pine St\, Towanda\, PA) on Saturday\, April 5. Each workshop will last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with lunch and morning refreshments provided. Please arrive between 9:30 and 10 a.m. to check-in. The cost of attending a workshop is $10 per participant. \nWith the help of local historians\, Brian Lione of Lione Heritage Consulting and Hillori Schenker\, founder and advisor for the Historic Preservation Club at the Montrose Area Junior/Senior High School\, we will educate cemetery associations\, municipal cemetery caretakers\, and those who simply have an interest in preserving family headstones on how to keep our regional cemeteries beautiful. \nEach workshop will include learning opportunities on the history of cemeteries\, research resources\, and methods for documentation. Appropriate cleaning techniques will be the focus of the workshop\, and instructors will demonstrate so participants can see techniques up close and ask questions about the approach. Each participant will receive an instruction workbook and a toolkit of supplies (worth over $50) to take home for their own use. \nRegister for either the March 29 or April 5 workshop. These are repeat workshops\, so only choose one that best fits your schedule. \nThese workshops are funded in part by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and provided by the EMHR. \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:EMHR's First Day Hike at World's End State Park
DESCRIPTION:Register\n \n \n \n \n \n Ring in the New Year at World’s End State Park in Sullivan County! The Endless Mountains Heritage Region is partnering with World’s End State Park officials to host a “First Day Hike\,” to celebrate the new year! \nRegister at www.emheritage.org/events and arrive at World’s End State Park by 11 a.m. on Thursday\, Jan. 1\, 2026! EMHR will meet participants at the World’s End State Park office\, at 82 Cabin Bridge Road\, where we will hear about park improvements and upcoming events from DCNR’s Park Ranger\, William Young. \nWe will then make our way over to the Double Run Nature Trail\, where we will embark on a roughly 2-mile hike with 350 feet of elevation gain while viewing stunning waterfalls along the way. This is considered a moderate hike on AllTrails\, but only for its brief elevation gain to climb up the hill (we will be doing the climb in reverse). Hikers are asked to please bring appropriate hiking boots\, along with spikes\, in case of ice. \nThe backup plan for this trip\, in the event of mild ice accumulation\, will be walking the East Branch Trail halfway and looping back to the beginning of the trailhead on Route 154. This trail is considered easier and would be safer in the event of ice. In the event of severe weather and road closings\, the hike will be canceled. \nAlong with safe hiking shoes and ice cleats/spikes\, participants are asked to bring a sufficient supply of water and/or snacks with them for a duration of 2 hours and wear appropriate clothing for the winter weather (a winter coat\, hats and gloves are encouraged!). Any questions or concerns can be directed to Program Development Associate Rachel Flad at rflad@emheritage.org. Though this is a free event\, we ask that you please register at our website (stated above) so we may get a proper head count of attendees and prepare accordingly. \nIn the event inclement weather is forecasted for New Year’s Day and forces us to cancel the hike\, participants will be notified by email. Please keep an eye on the email you used for registration to receive updates from the EMHR. \n \n Register
