We had such an amazing time are our Annual Youth Heritage Sojourn last week with @endlessmountainoutfitters! We had 40 students from various school districts across PA and NY paddle 33.5 river miles over the course of the three day adventure from Sugar Run to Tunkhannock! We thank EMO for guiding the kids again this year as well as our amazing guest speakers and entertainers, including the @pennstatewatershedsteward, storyteller Steve Davenport, and the very talented Sophia Alvarez of the Wyalusing Valley High School for her musical performance for the students at @camp_lackawanna! CALL TO ACTION! As you may have heard, the EMHR is in pursuit of a National Heritage Area designation and is currently undergoing our feasibility study with Point Heritage Development Consulting. As a state-designated Heritage Area for over 25 years, we are hoping to move to the next level and become the seventh nationally designated Heritage Area in Pennsylvania, which would undoubtedly lead to more awareness, tourism, and funding for the region we serve. It’s vital to the process that we receive feedback from the public, our heritage partners, state and local leaders, area businesses, recreationalists, and stakeholders from across the four counties of Bradford, Sullivan, Susquehanna, and Wyoming, which make up our region. The survey will take just a few minutes of your time, but the information we receive from you is invaluable! Please take the survey before the end of June to ensure we receive your feedback!

More photos to come, but what an AMAZING day on the Susquehanna River North Branch Water Trail in Susquehanna County for our Oakland Dam Removal Celebration Paddle on Saturday with Susquehanna Greenway Partnership and Endless Mountain Outfitters! Over 60 people on the water from Oakland to Hallstead! Thanks to American Rivers, Susquehanna Borough, DiscoverNEPA, Shrpa, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and all of our guest speakers, photographers, and videographers for helping make this such a great event! Great way to start off paddling season! #EMHR #SGP #EMO
For the last few years, the EMHR has taken part in the Wyalusing Valley High School`s 7th grade trout release event along Schrader Creek on Barclay Mountain. Yesterday, we had dozens of students visit our booth to learn about the EMHR and play our Bradford County trivia board game that teaches them about local history, agriculture, outdoor recreation, the Susquehanna River North Branch Water Trail, and more! Always a great event with a great group of kids, and its a plus that our executive director gets to chat with teachers from his alma mater. Thanks to 7th grade teacher Liz Vanderpool for inviting us again! #EMHR #WVHS #TroutRelease #BarclayMountain
Thank you to everyone who came out for our third and well attended Endless Mountains Outdoor Recreation Roundtable yesterday at the @susqcolibrary in Montrose! We`d also like to thank the @railtrailnepa, @friends_of_salt_springs_park_, and the @susquehanna_cty_conservation for talking about their ongoing projects and events to our group! Following the roundtable, some of us went to tour the newly opened Bridgewater Interpretive Trail at the Conservation District office! What a beautiful little trail complete with interpretive signage, native trees and plants, an apiary, and a quarter-mile trail connecting all of it! Thank you for having us! #EMHR #OutdoorRecRoundtable #RailTrailCouncil #SaltSprings #SCCD
What a great tour we had of @themetcalfmansion in Tunkhannock yesterday with our friends from the Wyoming County Historical Society! This beautiful Queen-Anne style home constructed by Henry F. Metcalf in 1895 is currently one of the many structures you`ll find on the Historic Tunkhannock Walking Tour. It was recently purchased by Jon and Denise Ebersole, who are looking to restore it after many years of vacancy and neglect. We truly appreciate their determination to save this historic home and make it something the community can truly be proud of. There were too many amazing features to photograph, but we were so taken aback by the Metcalf`s incredible architecture, impeccable masonry and carpentry, stunning staircases, charming fireplaces, and its many exquisite bedrooms and bathrooms. Even the original barn foundation can be found in the backyard! What a place! We plan to do all we can in helping to save this Wyoming County relic and we urge the community to do the same! Based on the recent open house where over 450 people showed up, it appears there is a lot of local support to make this happen! #EMHR #TheMetcalfMansion #HistoricTunkhannock

We ended our Washington D.C. trip last week in a meeting with PA Sen. John Fetterman and the leaders of our Pennsylvania National Heritage Areas. Fetterman expressed great support for our HeritagePA program and the six National Heritage Areas (NHAs) here in the Commonwealth. He also said he supported the EMHR`s pursuit of becoming the seventh NHA in Pennsylvania. We also met with Chief of Staff of the Senate Subcommittee on National Parks, David Brooks, as well as the offices of Senator Bob Casey, Congressman Dan Meuser, Congressmen Summer Lee, Congressman Mike Kelly, and Congressman Guy Reschenthaler. We thank all of the legislators, staffers, and government officials who met with the EMHR over the course of our two-day trip to discuss our aspirations of becoming the next NHA! We`ll keep after it! #EMHR #NHA #GainingSupport #GainingTraction See less
It was a great week of visits to various heritage site visits across the region with our National Heritage Area designation feasibility study consultants from Point Heritage Development Consulting as well as a very successful and well attended public meeting on the matter at the Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock on Thursday! Thank you to all those who attended and provided feedback that will be very valuable in this process! We`re looking forward to the next public meeting in the summer! Stay tuned! Throughout the week, our consultants visited nearly a dozen heritage partners and sites here in the Endless Mountains including the Wyoming County Historical Society, Susquehanna County Historical Society, Bradford County Historical Society, The Dennis Farm Charitable Land Trust, Wyalusing Valley Museum, Nicholson Heritage Association, Susquehanna River North Branch Water Trail, Friends of Vosburg Neck State Park, Martin`s Creek Viaduct Overlook, the Friedenshütten Moravian site, Wyalusing Rocks, Marie Antoinette Overlook, and many more! It was cold and snowy, but we appreciate their determination to find out as much about our region as possible! #EMHR #NationalDesignation #FeasibilityStudy #PointHDC #EndlessMountains
What an epic time at LRCA`s ShiverFest 2024! A great turnout for a great organization! There was even a celebrity appearance from Joe Snedecker of WNEP-TV! Our friend Chicken (pictured with Joe, if you couldn`t tell) loaned us a beautiful 1920s canoe for our paddle down the Lackawanna River to Sweeney`s Beach! A lot of fun was had.
Our executive director Cain Chamberlin was incredibly honored and humbled to be the emcee for the @paenvironmentalcouncil`s 33rd Annual Evening for Northeast Pennsylvania’s Environment at The Woodlands Inn & Resort, Wilkes-Barre in October! It`s always a great event that recognizes our environmental stewards and trail blazers here in northeast Pennsylvania. Congratulations to all of the award winners as well as this year`s Thomas P. Shelburne Award recipient, John Levitsky, Watershed Specialist with the Luzerne Conservation District! We also wish all the best to our friend and PEC President, Davitt Woodwell, who will be retiring at the end of this year. #EMHR #PEC #EnvironmentalAwards #EmceeDuties
It was an absolutely beautiful fall morning in Wyoming County for the Vosburg Neck State Park tree planting where the EMHR, @padcnr, and @pennstatewatershedsteward gathered to plant more trees at our region`s newest state park! It`s pretty incredible knowing that the trees we planted today will still be standing long after we are gone, and will hopefully bring joy to Vosburg Neck State Park visitors for generations to come! #EMHR #DCNR #PennStateExtension #TreePlanting #Conservation #PAStateParks #VosburgNeck
