Our executive director Cain Chamberlin was incredibly honored and humbled to be the emcee for the @paenvironmentalcouncil`s 33rd Annual Evening for Northeast Pennsylvania’s Environment at The Woodlands Inn & Resort, Wilkes-Barre in October! It`s always a great event that recognizes our environmental stewards and trail blazers here in northeast Pennsylvania. Congratulations to all of the award winners as well as this year`s Thomas P. Shelburne Award recipient, John Levitsky, Watershed Specialist with the Luzerne Conservation District! We also wish all the best to our friend and PEC President, Davitt Woodwell, who will be retiring at the end of this year. #EMHR #PEC #EnvironmentalAwards #EmceeDuties
It was an absolutely beautiful fall morning in Wyoming County for the Vosburg Neck State Park tree planting where the EMHR, @padcnr, and @pennstatewatershedsteward gathered to plant more trees at our region`s newest state park! It`s pretty incredible knowing that the trees we planted today will still be standing long after we are gone, and will hopefully bring joy to Vosburg Neck State Park visitors for generations to come! #EMHR #DCNR #PennStateExtension #TreePlanting #Conservation #PAStateParks #VosburgNeck
Another $500 sponsorship provided by the EMHR and @padcnr for the Mobile Ag Ed Science Lab! This morning`s sponsorship was presented to the Sullivan County School District, where we met with Principal Samantha Kahler and Debbie Geist`s sixth grade class. Students learned about genetics in agriculture from Stacey Coolidge of the @pafarmbureau and @pafriendsofagriculture, which provides the Mobile Ag Ed Science Lab to school districts across the Commonwealth. Sullivan County Dairy Princess Makayla Bedford also joined our group this morning to promote agriculture in our region. The Ag Lab will be at Sullivan County through the end of this week and we`re so happy we could help cover the cost of this incredible resource that teaches so many students about the importance of farming and agriculture! #EMHR #DCNR #SullivanCounty #Farming #Agriculture #MobileAgEdScienceLab
Last Thursday, the EMHR went to one of our favorite heritage sites, the Dennis Farm, to tour the historic property with representatives from various historical societies and museums across Susquehanna County. We`d like to thank our board member, David Palmer of the Brooklyn Historical Society, for arranging the meeting, as well as Lucas Taylor of Keystone College for guiding the tour. The Dennis Farm was founded in 1793 by Prince Perkins, a free African American and Revolutionary War veteran from Connecticut, who came to this area with his family and became a true staple in the community. We always love spending time with Prince Perkins` descendants and leaders of The Dennis Farm Charitable Land Trust: Denise Dennis, Darryl Gore, and Lonnie Moore, who work tirelessly to bring awareness to this National Historic Site that recently received a semiquincentennial bell from America250PA to honor our nation`s 250th anniversary in 2026! #EMHR #DennisFarm
We had the most amazing time with over 50 hikers at the EMHR’s Friday the 13th Fall Foliage Hike on Friday at Vosburg Neck State Park in Tunkhannock! It was truly a great evening, thanks to the staffers with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources who helped guide the hikes and always keep the park looking spectacular! We had so many hikers, we had to divide into two groups for our climb to the vista for the sunset. We then hiked back down the mountain in the dark equipped with our headlamps and glow sticks to give it a truly spooky feel (it was Friday the 13th, after all). The groups learned about the history of the Park from Vosburg`s environmental education specialist, Amanda MacTarnaghan, as well as some information about the native plant life and the park`s boat launch leading to our beautiful 2023 PA River of the Year: the Susquehanna River North Branch Water Trail! Thank you to all those who participated! This event was funded in part by the PA Endless Mountains (Endless Mountains Visitors Bureau) and the Wyoming County Room Tax. #EMHR #DCNR #FallFoliage #FridayThe13th #VosburgNeckStatePark
While it was a wet, rainy, and chilly paddle, it was still a great one nevertheless! A friendly and avid group of paddlers always helps, no matter what the weather is like! Great job, everyone! And we saw a ton of eagles! Another 30 adventurers on the Susquehanna River North Branch Water Trail! A huge shoutout to Endless Mountain Outfitters who always do an amazing job guiding trips! Also thank you to the Wyalusing Hotel for catering, Gary Carl for the live music, and Bradford County Planning Director Matt Williams and Jeremy Leaidicker of the Penn State Extension Endless Mountains for being our guest speakers! We`re thrilled this Fall Heritage Benefit Paddle (Fourth Annual) could benefit and help fun conservation projects in our Bradford County Parks! #EMHR #EMO #PSUExtension #BradfordCountyParks #FallHeritageBenefitPaddle #ProtectOurParks
Lots of laughs and memories shared at our Annual Meeting and 25th Anniversary Farm-to-Table Dinner at the Vosburg Neck State Park last night! So many members, partners, and friends in attendance! We can`t thank you all enough for the support! A special thanks to our friends Doug and Ali Wilson and Friends of Vosburg Neck State Park for letting us use the beautiful and historic barn for our dinner, as well as Gary Carl for providing musical entertainment, Ray Bartolai of Bartolai Winery for being an awesome bartender, and The Epicurean Delight Catering Co. and Purple Pepper Farms for preparing the incredibly delicious gourmet dinners! Outstanding job done by all! We`d also like to thank everyone who contributed to our chance auction that raised nearly $400 for the EMHR! We hope everyone had a great time! #CheersTo25Years #EMHR #FarmToTable
We`d like to officially introduce everyone to the EMHR`s new administrative assistant, Marci Dake! Marci is a Wyalusing, Bradford County native who recently moved back to the area from West Virginia. She has a bachelor’s degree from Mansfield University, as well as an associate’s degree from Keystone Junior College, and has held positions in the past as a data entry clerk, title clerk, receptionist, bank teller, and substitute teacher. Yesterday, we took Marci on a partial tour of the region to show her the many sites and projects we at the EMHR are or have been involved with, including the new Vosburg Neck State Park, the Dietrich Theater/Wyoming County Cultural Center, Nicholson Heritage Association and Tourism Center, the Dennis Farm, the Martins Creek Viaduct Overlook, and Salt Springs Park. Welcome to the team, Marci! We`re so happy to have you aboard!
Our friend and avid cyclist, David Landis, is currently test riding the revised Endless Mountains Gravel Bikepacking Loop (EMGBL) through our four counties! This is a 420-mile journey with over 40,000 feet of elevation changes throughout, so it`s quite a ride! He started in Canton in southern Bradford County and has already made his way through Sullivan County into Wyoming County! You can keep track of David`s progress throughout the week by visiting: https://share.garmin.com/davidlandis
David was instrumental in creating the TransVirginia Bike Route and we look forward to getting his feedback on the EMGBL upon completing the ride! We hope he enjoys the pastoral landscapes, history, and quaint downtowns of the Endless Mountains as much as we do! He will also be posting photos and video on his Instagram page:

The EMHR went out to Susquehanna Borough to check on the Oakland Dam removal project, led by American Rivers and the contractor, Beran Environmental Services. Construction began earlier this week and they`ve already made significant progress! This dam removal represents the elimination of a significant safety hazard along the Susquehanna River North Branch Water Trail for paddlers and boaters. It also reconnects 250 miles of river for critical aquatic life habitats. This project was funded in part by the @padcnr and the EMHR looks forward to hosting paddles on this section of the river once the dam is removed. They plan to have the project completed by the end of the summer and a celebration event is being planned! Stay tuned! #OaklandDam #SusquehannaBorough #EMHR #DCNR #AmericanRivers #NorthBranchWaterTrail #SusquehannaRiver
What an absolutely gorgeous day on the Susquehanna River North Branch Water Trail for the EMHR`s Summer Heritage Benefit Paddle to raise funds for the Wyoming County Historical Society! Thank you to our amazing water tral managers, Art Coolbaugh of Susquehanna Kayak & Canoe Rentals and Emily Baldauff of Trout Unlimited, for guiding the trip from Mehoopany to Riverside Park in Tunkhannock! Thanks to the Dietrich Theater as well for hosting us for us following the paddle, where Emily served as guest speaker, Art prepared an amazing meal, and we heard great music from local singer/songwriter Gary Carl! We appreciate everyone who came out! #EMHR #SummerHeritageBenefitPaddle #NorthBranch #SusquehannaRiver
What a great grand opening ceremony for the Nicholson Heritage Association`s new tourism center and museum at the renovated DL&W train station on Saturday! The EMHR is so happy to see this project finally come to fruition and proud to have been a supporting partner throughout the process! It`s absolutely gorgeous and was such a well attended event! #Nicholson #WyomingCounty #NHA #EMHR
A great evening spent at the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce`s Summer Social event in Laporte on Monday night! Great to see everyone and hear about all the Chamber has going on! We truly appreciate all they do as well as the service of Chamber Director Candy Williams on the EMHR`s Board of Directors! #EMHR #SullivanCounty #ChamberOfCommerce #Laporte
What a great weekend it was in Sullivan County, where over 300 cyclists came from across the globe to ride in the Grinduro gravel cycling event! The three-day event took cyclists through much of the Loyalsock State Forest and showcased some of the amazing beauty we have here in the Endless Mountains! #Grinduro #EMHR #HillsgrovePA #SullivanCounty
Our annual EMHR Youth Heritage Sojourn was nothing short of amazing! We set a record for ourselves with nearly 70 kids in 2023! They came from all across our four counties and beyond, including Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and even Maryland! Thank you so much to Keith Brown and the crew at Endless Mountain Outfitters for leading this annual trip and always doing such an amazing job making all the kids feel right at home on our Susquehanna River North Branch Water Trail and at Camp Lackawanna! Thank you DiscoverNEPA and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for coming to take some photos and video as well! We look forward to seeing the footage! #EMHR #PARiverOfTheYear #SusquehannaRiver #NorthBranch
We`d like to congratulate our friend and fearless leader, Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, who was recently reconfirmed by the PA Senate for another term as DCNR Secretary following her nomination by Governor Shapiro! Secretary Dunn joined us on EMHR`s 25th Anniversary and River of the Year Sojourn last week and helped us unveil the PA River of the Year Poster for our Susquehanna River North Branch Water Trail with the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership at the new Vosburg Neck State Park in Wyoming County! She stayed the night with our group of Sojourn participants at Camp Lackawanna for some live music and dinner and then joined us on the river the following morning during our paddle from there to Riverside Park in Tunkhannock! She helped our river guide, Chicken, paddle his beautifully restored 1930s Old Town wooden canoe, so she was thrilled to head downriver in style! Congratulations and thank you for all you do, Secretary Dunn! We look forward to continuing our work with you! #EMHR #DCNR #PARiverOfTheYear #SusquehannaRiverNorthBranch
Our new 25th Anniversary brochures are in as well as our event t-shirts for the EMHR`s 25th Anniversary and River of the Year Sojourn! Over 45 paddlers will join us throughout the week during our trip from Sayre to Shickshinny! While the river could be a bit higher, we are still so excited for this great event and we`d like to send out a huge thank you to our water trail team, including @endlessmountainoutfitters, Susquehanna Kayak & Canoe Rentals, and Five Mountain Outfitters Co. for all their help and expertise! Let`s make it a great trip! #EMHR #25Years #AnniversaryAndRiverOfTheYearSojourn #SusquehannaRiver #NorthBranch
