The Endless Mountains Heritage Region (EMHR) and CHOP Out Hunger are teaming up to host the “Hungry for Adventure Sojourn,” a two-day river trip from Laceyville to Tunkhannock for youth (grades 6-12) in our four-county region who are enrolled in CHOP programs. This two-day river journey will be held on Aug. 8 and 9, 2025.
Multiple students have already been selected to join the sojourn and we are still accepting essays until April 28 at 5 p.m. Students who submit essays have the chance to join the sojourn for FREE! After April 28, we will still be accepting participants to join the two-day sojourn, but at a fee of $125. This fee includes the two-day kayak rental, a paddle, life jacket, lodging at Camp Lackawanna, meals and snacks, educational programming, and fun activities!
Those who participate in the Hungry for Adventure Sojourn should meet at Endless Mountain Outfitters (7474 PA-187, Sugar Run, PA 18846) by 8:30 a.m. the morning of the event for check-in. Following a welcome and safety briefing, students will be shuttled to Laceyville, where they will begin their paddle to Riverside Park in Tunkhannock.
Students will stay overnight at Camp Lackawanna in Tunkhannock, chaperoned by our staff and team of river guides, many of which also serve as teachers. The Hungry for Adventure Sojourn will not only educate students about kayaking and paddling safety, but we’ll also be incorporating guest speakers who will teach them about environmental stewardship and the history and ecology of the Susquehanna River. Due to a limited number of boat rentals and shuttle capacity through EMHR’s pair of water trail managers at Endless Mountain Outfitters (EMO) and Susquehanna Kayak and Canoe Rentals (SKCR), we are only capable of taking up to 70 students on these youth river trips.
All students in grades 6-12 from school districts within the Heritage Region (Bradford, Sullivan, Susquehanna, and Wyoming Counties) are welcome to participate! Click the link below to partake in the essay contest and be sure to use the question appropriate for your grade level. Essay contest participants will be informed by early May. You can also sign up for the $125 fee by clicking “Register”. Best of luck and we hope to see you on the river!
